From Old Swedish tøghia, from Old Norse teygja, from Proto-Germanic *taugijaną.
Verb[edit]
töja (present töjer, preterite töjde, supine töjt, imperative töj)
- (often with ut (“out”)) to stretch (make longer or more spacious (by pulling or stretching))
- (reflexive, sometimes with ut (“out”)) to stretch (become longer or more spacious (by being pulled or stretched))
- Byxorna hade töjt sig
- The pants had stretched
- Tyget har töjt sig
- The material has stretched
