Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish تشرین أول (teşrin-i evvel), from Arabic تِشْرِين الْأَوَّل (tišrīn al-ʔawwal), equivalent to teşrin +‎ evvel. The name was officially changed to Ekim by law number 4696 passed January 10, 1945.
