Particularly: “Considered native Hmongic by Ratliff (in the "hour" sense), though no reconstructed proto-form is given.[1] Perhaps a clipping of Chinese 天秤 (tiānchèng, “balance, scales”) (for the "scales" sense)? The "hour" and other senses may or may not be related.”
