From Ottoman Turkish اویارمق (uyarmak, oyarmak, to wake, rouse, stir up), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (oyar-, to wake), from Proto-Turkic *od-gur- (to wake), causative of the unattested stem *od-. Compare uyanmak (to wake up), passive/reflexive of the same root. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰆𐰑𐰍𐰆𐰺 (odɣur-, to wake).
