Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *hwaŋ (“to come (out), to enter”). Cognate with Burmese ဝင် (wang, “to enter”), Tibetan འོང ('ong, “to come”), Nuosu ꃹ (vur, “to enter”), Hani ol (“to enter”), Tangut 𘃽 (*ꞏo², “to enter”), Chepang वाङ्सा (“to come”), and Bokar oŋ (“to enter”). Compare Lhao Vo vao, Zaiwa wang, Longchuan Achang ɔŋ⁵⁵ and Hpon vʀó.
