Etymology[edit]
From Middle Dutch wintbrauwe, from Old Dutch *wintbrāwa. The first element is unknown but presumed to be related to Ancient Greek ἴονθος (íonthos). The second element is from Proto-Germanic *brēwō. Doublet of wimper (“eyelash”), from a contraction.
