From Old Frisian *wiūke, from Proto-West Germanic *weukā (bundle of flax, tow, plug, braid, fuse, wick), related to Saterland Frisian Juke, Juuk (wing, swinging arm, pinion), Dutch wiek (wing), Old English wēoce (whence English wick).
