Etymology[edit]

From wolf +‎ -s- +‎ bane, a calque of Ancient Greek λυκοκτόνον (lukoktónon), from λύκος (lúkos, wolf) + κτείνω (kteínō, I kill). Influenced by Latin lycoctonum.
