Etymology[edit]

y- (3rd person object prefix) + -∅- (3rd person subject prefix) + -∅- (classifier)-ʼį́ (neuter imperfective stem of root -ʼĮĮD, “to dislike”).

Verb[edit]

yiʼį́

  1. he/she dislikes it, opposes it, is unable to stand it
    Diné ayóo dashiʼį́.People don't like me.
  2. (with bąąh) he/she is against it for him/her, deprives him/her from it, keeps him/her from doing it
    Shimá nátʼoh shąąh yiʼį́.My mother is against my use of tobacco.

Usage notes[edit]

This verb has two imperfectives (active and neuter) and two perfectives (yi- and si-perfectives).
