Azerbaijani[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Compare Crimean Tatar yolaq/colaq (Northern Dialect), Kumyk ёлакъ (yolaq, “stain”), Kazakh жолақ (jolaq).
The shift of /j/ to /z/ is, however, rather unprecedented in Azerbaijani and does not account for the form zol with overlapping senses.
Noun[edit]
zolaq (definite accusative zolağı, plural zolaqlar)
- strip
- stripe
- belt, zone
- lane (lengthwise division of roadway intended for a single line of vehicles)
