Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

According to Ačaṙyan, from Proto-Indo-European *sent- (to head for, to go) +‎ -ան- (-an-). The sound changes are similar to that of ընկենում (ənkenum). To account for the unexpected -նթ- (-ntʻ-) instead of -նդ- (-nd-), he supposes a by-form *sentʰ-.
