Etymology[edit]

Partial calque of English email, from ܐܸܓܲܪܬܵܐ (iggartā, letter) +‎ ܐܸܠܝܼܩܲܛܪܘܿܢܵܝܬܵܐ (ilīqaṭrōnāytā, electronic). Coined by Bailis Yamlikha Shamun and first published in a 2014 dictionary, as a substitute for the more common Anglicism ܐܝܼܡܲܝܠ (īmayl).
