Etymology[edit]

Calque of English email, from ܒܝܼܠܕܵܪܘܼܬܵܐ (bīldārūtā, mail) +‎ ܐܸܠܝܼܩܲܛܪܘܿܢܵܝܬܵܐ (ilīqaṭrōnāytā, electronic). Coined by Bailis Yamlikha Shamun and first published in a 2014 dictionary, as a substitute for the more common Anglicism ܐܝܼܡܲܝܠ (īmayl).
