Borrowed from Classical Persian مقامی (maqāmī), from مقام (maqām) + suffix ـی (), from Arabic مَقَام (maqām), from the root ق و م (q w m). By surface analysis, मुक़ाम (muqām, residence, dwelling) +‎ -ई (, a suffix).
