Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Gujarati रहइ (rahaï), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀭𑀳𑀤𑀺 (rahadi), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *ráźʰati (to remain, stay), but of uncertain ultimate origin. See Sanskrit रहस् (rahas) for details. Cognate with Marathi राहणे (rāhṇe), Hindi रहना (rahnā), Nepali रहनु (rahanu), Assamese ৰোৱা (rüa).

  1. to stay, remain

  2. to reside, dwell, live
    હું સુરતમાં રહું છું હવે

  3. to be located
