Etymology[edit]

First attested as mereheim and merheim in 825-842. Borrowed from West Frisian Marrum, derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian mere (pool) and hēm (home, settlement). Compare Marum, Mareham le Fen and Mareham on the Hill.
