Etymology[edit]

First attested as marum in 1385. Potentially a compound of Old Frisian mâr (lake, pool, watercourse) and heem (home, settlement) or a derivation from the dative plural form of mâr. Compare Marrum, Mareham le Fen and Mareham on the Hill.
