Strange edit history[edit]

I gotta say... it's really quite strange to see the edit history for this file. I have never contributed to it (either under this account or any other). To see ad hominem comments like this is a clear violation of Wikipedia's editing policy. (Also, my name is spelled <Wier>, not <Weir> -- this is a good sign that the editor in question is not detail-oriented.)

Anyway, the Kartvelian form is almost certainly a loan from a Nakh-Daghestanian root *=Vč̣ʷVn- meaning to chew, crush, as the word itself is not attested until very late (1729), is a reduplication ჭაჭანა č̣ač̣ana and originally referred not to the liquid produced but to the semi-solid slurry produced by crushing grapes and other associated parts of the vine.
