Apples

Forgive my naivety, but why is this entry under a "Swedish" header? Presumably all Latin-alphabet languages call this commune "Apples". This, that and the other (talk) 03:45, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

It looks to me like Connel MacKenzie was thinking about something else at the time and got Switzerland and Sweden transposed in his mind just long enough to choose the wrong language header. After that, it was just bots and narrowly-focused humans editing the entry, so no one noticed. Chuck Entz (talk) 04:23, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Do we really want this entry at all? I'm all in favor of including place names of largish places, especially when they have different names in different languages, but this village of 1200 people doesn't even have different names in other Swiss languages, let alone any other language. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 12:07, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

We don't have any consensus on place names except they're kept on RfD every single time, apparently, no matter how small and remote they may be. -- Liliana • 11:43, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

We don't have notability criteria and we voted down names of specific entities, so attestation is the only requirement. Of course we can always be completely arbitrary about it and delete it without RfD or RfD it and have an unprincipled vote to delete. DCDuring TALK 12:52, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Apples

This place is in French-speaking part of Switzerland. Should the language simply be changed to French? We have plenty of small towns in many languages. --Hekaheka (talk) 00:05, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Almost every town or place X is X in Swedish, Finnish or almost any Latin-alphabet language. I have followed the rule that I only add a Finnish entry for a foreign placename which is not X in Finnish. Admittedly, it is a rule of my own, but still it makes a lot of sense. --Hekaheka (talk) 16:38, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Allright, every rule has an exception. Some really important places such as New York have a Finnish entry in order to show the declension. But Apples? --Hekaheka (talk) 16:41, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
