Vietnamese 'cho' etymology from 賙?[edit]

Nguyen Viet Khoi suggests cho (to give) comes from 賙 (SV: chu; to give for charity). Any input on this? Vien.Vu1 (talk) 06:17, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Semantically, it's all well and good, however, the Arem cognate (as well as others like Cuối Chăm cəː¹) would be very difficult to explain if one is to posit (MC tsyuw) as etymology. This *əː > ɔː is seemingly irregular (at least, I have no explanation for it), but it is supported by other examples, like hói (< *həːlʔ, Cuối Chăm həːl³) and bỏ.
