Found at least one usage here [2]: "Tytöt itse maskaavat itsensä, ”mustilla kynillä” saadaan nopeasti viikset tai mustaa väriä naamaan." I would consider dropping the translation "to make up", though. It has the sense "to prepare for a theatrical performance by means of costume, cosmetics", but is now chiefly understood to mean "to apply makeup".
