English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

amphi- +‎ xeno- +‎ -osis

Noun[edit]

amphixenosis (plural amphixenoses)

  1. (biology, microbiology) A zoonosis that can be passed from humans to other species as well as being passed from another species to a human.
    • 2014, Dwight D. Bowman, Georgis' Parasitology for Veterinarians, →ISBN, page 10:
Several of the agents on the list are the result of human beings' sharing parasites with other species (i.e., amphixenosis) because the parasite is not that finicky about its final host. Schistosoma japonicum is a fairly straightforward case of amphixenosis; the schistosome would be just as happy in a cow or in a cat, so is Trypenosoma cruzi.
    • 2016, Mariko Morishita, Kinam Park, Biodrug Delivery Systems, →ISBN:
The preparation and maintenance/control of the desired animals and the control of the propagation of amphixenoses derived from the animals are issues specific to these products.
