From Portuguese arrátel, from Andalusian Arabic الرَطْل (rottol), from Arabic الرَطْل (ar-raṭl), from Aramaic רִיטְלָא / ܪܺܝܛܠܳܐ (rīṭlā), variant of לִיטְרָא / ܠܺܝܛܪܳܐ (līṭrā), from Ancient Greek λίτρα (lítra, libra, Roman pound). Doublet of libra, livre, libbra, liter, and rottol.
