Etymology[edit]
From the older *enhadir (with <nh> /ŋ/),[1] from Old Galician-Portuguese ẽader (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from Vulgar Latin *innaddere, from in- (“in”) + addēre (“to add”), from Latin addēre, present active infinitive of addō. Cognate to Spanish añadir and Old Galician-Portuguese emadir.[2]
