Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ارتباط (irtibaṭ, “a being or becoming attached to, connected with a person or a thing, attachment, connexion”),[1] from Arabic اِرْتِبَاط (irtibāṭ), verbal noun of اِرْتَبَطَ (irtabaṭa, “to be connected, associated with”).[2]
