major seventh (plural major sevenths)

  1. (music) A musical interval in Western music that approximates a frequency ratio of 15/8. It is one semitone wider than a minor seventh. In twelve-tone equal temperament, it consists of eleven semitones, spans seven degrees of the diatonic scale, and is enharmonically equivalent to a diminished octave.
