Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *ob- (to crush, mince, grind).[1] Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (uv-, to crumble, pulverize), Azerbaijani ovmaq (to crumble, massage), Bashkir ыуыу (ıwıw, to grind, pound), Southern Altai ӧй (öy, to rub).

  1. (transitive) to massage, knead, rub
    Bileklerimi kolonya ile ovdum.
    I rubbed my wrists with cologne.
