Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Ruthenian ква́пити (kvápiti), from Proto-Slavic *kvapiti. Cognate with Belarusian ква́піць (kvápicʹ), Czech kvapit, Polish kwapić. Originally a causative of кипі́ти (kypíty).
