      Amár Rav Y'hudá: "ʿaqúd" ʿaqedát yad va-régel, k-Yitzḥáq ben Avrahám.
      Rav Yehuda said: "aqud" means binding the forelimbs and legs, as with Isaac son of Abraham.
    • a. 500 C.E., Babylonian Talmud, Rosh Hashanah 16a:
      אָמַר רַבִּי אָבָּהוּ: לָמָּה תּוֹקְעִין בַּשּׁוֹפָר שֶׁל אַיִל? אָמַר הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא, תָּקְעוּ לְפָנַי בַּשּׁוֹפָר שֶׁל אַיִל, כְּדֵי שֶׁאֶזְכֹּר לָכֶם עֲקֵדַת יִצְחָק בֶּן אַבְרָהָם, וּמַעֲלֶה אֲנִי עֲלֵיכֶם כְּאִלּוּ עֲקַדְתֶּם עַצְמְכֶם לְפָנַי.
      Amár Rabbi Abáhu: Lamá toqʿín ba-shofár shel áyil? Amár ha-Qadósh Barúkh Hu, taqʿú l'fanái ba-shofár shel áyil, k'déi she-ezkór lakhém ʿaqedát Yitzḥáq ben Avrahám, u-maʿalé aní ʿaleikhém k-ílu ʿaqadtém ʿatsm'khém l'fanái.
      Said Rabbi Abbahu: Why do we blast on the horn of a ram? The Holy Blessed One said, Blast before me on the horn of a ram, so that I remember for you the binding of Isaac son of Abraham, and I will merit it for you as if you bound yourseles before Me.
