From Ottoman Turkish تاوه ,طاوه (tava, frying pan), from Classical Persian تاوه (tāva), from Middle Persian tʾp̄k' (tābag), whence also طَابَق (ṭābaq). See also Hijazi Arabic طاوة (ṭāwa, frying pan) and Moroccan Arabic طاوة (ṭāwa, cooking pot) – apparently the present form is from Levantine dialects having modified the form with the popular tool noun pattern.
