From Aramaic תְּאֵנְתָּא (təʾēntā), from Proto-Semitic *tiʔin-; compare Classical Syriac ܬܐܢܬܐ (tēʾttā), Arabic تِين (tīn), Hebrew תְּאֵנָה (t'einá) and Akkadian 𒄑𒈠 (tittum).
