Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian بیچاره (bēčāra, poor, helpless, pathetic), from بی (, without) +‎ چاره (čâra, help). Compare Gujarati બિચારું (bicārũ), Hindustani بیچارہ / बेचारा (becārā), Punjabi ਵਿਚਾਰਾ (vicārā) / وِچارا (vicārā), Bengali বেচারা (becara), Assamese বেচেৰা (besera).
