Borrowed from Classical Persian بی‌چاره (bē-čāra, poor, helpless, pathetic), from بی (, without) +‎ چاره (čāra, help). Compare Punjabi ਵਿਚਾਰਾ (vicārā) / وِچارا (vicārā), Gujarati બિચારું (bicārũ), Marathi बिचारे (bicāre), Bengali বেচারা (becara), Assamese বেচেৰা (besera).
