Borrowed from Arabic مَشْعَل (mašʕal). Compare Assamese মহলা (mohola), Bengali মশাল (mośal), Marathi मशाल (maśāl), Odia ମଶାଲ (môśalô), Punjabi ਮਸਾਲ (masāl), Sindhi مَشْعَلُ (maś'alu).
