Etymology 1[edit]

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *b-ka-(n/m/ŋ) (bitter). Cognate with Tibetan ཁ་བ (kha ba), Nuosu (ke), Lisu ꓘꓪꓽ (kʰwɑ̀), S'gaw Karen ခၣ် (khà), and Chinese (), all ‘bitter’.
