くじり (kujiri): a sailor using a wooden fid to repair a snag on a mooring line.

Etymology[edit]

From the (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb くじる (to stick into something and open it up, such as a knot or a hole)..

As a standalone noun, first cited to the 和名類聚抄 (Wamyō Ruijushō) of 934.[1]
