Etymology[edit]

Likely a compound of くる (kuru, root for turning, as in くるくる (kurukuru, spinning around), 繰る (kuru, to spin a thread), (kuru, hinge), 転めく (kurumeku, to spin round), possibly (kuruma, vehicle)) +‎ (fushi, joint, section). The fushi changes to bushi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).[1]
