Etymology[edit]
Uncertain. Theories include ちゃん (-chan), suffix to the name of the cook, or Mandarin 鏟鍋/铲锅 (chǎnguō, “metal pot”), plus 鍋 (nabe, “food cooked in a pot”).[1]
