Etymology[edit]

is an alternative form of (koah, “to cut”) in Taiwanese Hokkien. The yìbāo reading in Mandarin, which is rare, is an orthographic borrowing from Hokkien, while the much more common guàbāo is directly borrowed from Hokkien.
