- (clothing) round-collared open-sleeved short-trained robe, unsewn under the arms, worn as a formal garment by low-ranking military officials and guardsmen. The colour was not prescribed, and those of the Left and Right Guards were decorated with great crests depicting lion-dogs and bears respectively
