Usage notes[edit]

  • The "mist" sense is never used in a meteorological sense, where it is referred to as (moya).
  • Around the Heian period, spring mists were referred to as kasumi while in autumn they were called (kiri, literally fog); there was no distinction in both seasons in literature before that era as they were used interchangeably.
