Etymology[edit]

Sino-Korean word from 彼岸, from (that) + (bank), ultimately calqued from Sanskrit पारमिता (pāramitā).

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
