@AryamanA According to Turner kutta 3275, the Gujarati and Marathi descendants are "G. kuttɔ m., °tī f., M. kutte -- in cmpds.", which are Gujarati કુત્તો (kutto) m, કુત્તી (kuttī) f and Marathi कुत्ते- (kutte-).

Gujarati કૂતરો (kūtro) m, કૂતરી (kūtrī) f, કૂતરું (kūtrũ) n and Marathi कुत्रा (kutrā) m, कुत्री (kutrī) f, कुत्रे (kutre) n are at Turner kuttira 3277. Do you agree with this analysis?

Also, is it not advisable to create Proto- entries based on Turner reconstructions (such as *kuttiras) because of the complexities involved?

@Kutchkutch: I think Turner is right too. But, I'm sure that there is some connection between *kuttas and *kuttiras; Indo-Aryan languages often extended words by adding consonants to the end, to make the word easier to recognize in Prakrit (since medial consonants were dropped).
