Ya, the root of this is *piso. The -ka on the end is a stative suffix appearing in many adjectives, even 静か (shizuka) from root sizu + ka. From that root sizu, we also get 沈む (shizumu), much as we have root *piso, adjective 密か (hisoka), and verb 潜む (hisomu).
