Conceptualization of Difference between 侯 and 候[edit]
The Glyph Origin and Han Character composition information don't provide the reader with the big hint they could use: that the graphical difference between 侯 and 候 is the 丨 stroke 'inserted' (as it were) into the components of 侯 that thereby produces 候. Is the 丨 stroke standing in as the semantic component 形旁 renzipang 人字旁, so that we don't have to write two 人字旁 next to each other? Or is the full 人字旁 of 候 a real 形旁 and the fake 人字旁 from 侯 just morphing into a 丨 stroke? If we could get some clarity on these two components, then a more helpful and comprehensive Glyph Origin section could be written. I came up with: "Phono-semantic compound (形聲／形声, OC *ɡoːs): semantic 亻 + phonetic 矦 (OC *ɡoː). (The 矦 component (here in modified form where the first 丿 stroke is omitted and the second 丿 stroke is written as a 丨 stroke) is an ancient form of 侯 (hóu).)" --Geographyinitiative (talk) 12:04, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
