Intuitiveness Factor

[edit]

One factor that may play a role in the romanization of Haishenwei versus Haishenwai is the intuitiveness of the phonetic component 聲旁声旁 (shēngpáng) and its relation to the pronunciation of 崴. Obviously, the phonetic component would point the uninitiated to pronounce or transcribe this character using the wei1 pronunciation, not a wai3 pronunciaiton. There is no other character with wai3. So I can imagine that the same people that use Haicanwei or similar could easily use Haishenwei when, if they had been more careful, they might have meant to use Haishenwai. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
