U-onbin (ウ音便) from こみち (komichi).[2][3][4][5][6] The pronunciation resulting from this onbin, /koũdi/, had been popularised since at least the early twelfth century CE.[7]
Possibly influenced by its antonym おおじ (ōji).[6]
