Usage notes[edit]

The term represents significantly different types of enactment in different jurisdictions:

  • In Mainland China, "條例" may means any of the following types of enactment:
    • administrative regulations enacted by the State Council
    • local enactments by local People's Congresses (or their Standing Committees)
    • regulations within the Chinese Communist Party
    • in rare cases, legislation enacted by the National People's Congress or its Standing Committee
  • In Taiwan, "條例" means a legislation enacted by the Legislative Yuan, usually of regional, temporary or specific nature.

  • In Hong Kong, "條例" means an ordinance enacted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
