- Here is the CDIAL entry for हिक्कति (hikkati):
- 14074 hikkati ʻ hiccups, sobs ʼ Pat. [hikk1]
- Dm. hik -- ʻ to hiccup ʼ, Kal.rumb. hĩk -- , Phal. 1 sg. hikūˊm.
- It does not indicate any Hindustani descendant. According to CDIAL 14083 *hicc ʻ draw back ʼ, the verb हिचकना (hicaknā) is from the Ashokan Prakrit root *𑀳𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀘- (*hicca-). Kutchkutch (talk) 17:39, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
