From sa + dili (“alone, self”). Also possibly from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *hadiʀi, from Proto-Austronesian *Sadiʀi. Compare Bikol Central sadiri, Malay diri/sendiri, and Tagalog sarili.

From sa- + dili, with the root from borrowed from Malay diri (“self; to establish”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *hadiʀi (“housepost”), from Proto-Austronesian *Sadiʀi (“housepost”). Compare Bikol Central sadiri, Kapampangan sarili, Maranao siri, and Malay sendiri. Doublet of haligi.
